전이 轉移 : 한국의 가구

한국의 전통 목가구에는 소박하고 단정한 정서와 미감, 전통 기술과 생활양식이 모두 녹아 있다. 나뭇결 본연의 자연스러움을 살린 재료, 기능에 충실한 간결한 구조, 선과 면이 교차하며 만들어낸 아름다운 비례는 단순하고 절제된 현대의 디자인 미학과도 잘 어우러진다. 그러나 주거양식이 변화함에 따라 전통 목가구의 정갈하고 소담한 멋은 과거의 유물이 되어 현대의 일상공간으로부터 멀어지게 되었고, 한국의 전통 가구와 현대 가구 사이에는 커다란 간극이 발생하게 되었다.

인천공항박물관 소장품전 ‹전이 轉移 : 한국의 가구›는 이러한 간극에 주목하여 단절된 과거와 현재의 연결 가능성을 찾아가는 전시이다. 조선 후기 목가구와 스튜디오 신유가 제작한 디자인 가구의 만남 속에서 전통과 현대의 미감이 중첩되는 지점을 발견할 수 있을 것이다.

Transition : Korean Furniture

not only simple and neat in nature and appearance, but also hints at traditional techniques and ways of living. The materials used highlight the natural beauty and texture of the wood, the structure is concise and true to its purpose, and the beautifully proportioned lines and planes perfectly match the simple, understated, modern designs. However, as living styles changed over time, the modest charm of traditional wooden furniture became obsolete and hard to and in modern-day living spaces. The result was a wide gap between Korean traditional and modern furniture.

Incheon Airport Museum's exhibition, Transition: Korean Furniture, explores ways to connect the past and present of Korean furniture. By showcasing antique wooden furniture from the late Joseon period and designer furniture produced by STUDIO SHINYOO, this exhibition invites visitors to and the point where traditional and modern aesthetics overlap.
