2018년, 밀라노 가구 박람회에 방문했을 당시 볼 수 있었던 다양한 디자인 작품들이 각국의 문화적 특수성만을 강조하여 세계적인 공감대를 얻는 데 어려움을 겪고 있다는 느낌을 받았다. 한국에서도 전통을 모티브로 한 디자인을 많이 만났다. 문양이나 패턴을 적용한 예가 많았고, 나름대로 전통을 현대에 적용시키는 작업이었다. 그러나 예찬 일변도로 달려온 전통 담론은 재고되어야 한다. 현대의 전통은 특수성만을 지나치게 확대해석하여 본래 지니고 있던 의미가 잘못 전달되는 경우가 많다. 우리는 문화적인 특수성 속에 숨겨진 보편적인 요소들을 발견하여 다양한 문화권의 사람들이 공감할 수 있는 작품을 만들어야겠다고 생각했다. 이후 약 1년 동안 한국과 일본, 그리고 유럽에서의 건축 기행을 통해 동서양 문화를 관통하는 미학적 패턴을 탐색하고 발견하고자 노력했고 이를 바탕으로 린 컬렉션이 탄생하게 되었다.

In 2018, I felt that various design works that I saw when I visited the Milan Furniture Fair were having a hard time gaining global consensus by emphasizing only the cultural specificity of each country. I also met many designs based on tradition in Korea. There were many examples of applying patterns and patterns, and it was the work of applying tradition to modern times in its own way. However, the traditional discourse that has been running with respect should be reconsidered. Modern traditions often misrepresented their original meaning by overly broad interpretation of specificity. We thought that we should find universal elements hidden in cultural specificity and create works that people from various cultures can sympathize with. For about a year after that, he tried to explore and discover aesthetic patterns that penetrate Eastern and Western cultures through architectural travel in Korea, Japan, and Europe, and based on this, the Lin Collection was born.

가구를 건축하다.
고대 그리스 로마의 파르테논 신전 기둥과 동양의 목조 건축물과 같은 문화적 특수성으로부터 “기둥-보” 구조라는 보편성을 도출하여 테이블을 본질적으로 건설해보고자 했다. “기둥-보” 구조는 모든 인류가 더 나은 주거 환경을 위해 공통적으로 발전시킨 건축술이다.
숲을 짓다.
숲의 세로선이라는 전 인류가 보아온 미학적 패턴을 공간적으로 풀어내어 작품을 디자인했다. 때문에 숲이 지닌 연결성과 확장성을 담고 있다. 숲처럼 나무 기둥이 세워지며 수평으로 확장되기도 하고, 그것들이 높게 자라면서 수직으로 확장되기도 한다.
자연과 인위를 잇는 선.
린 테이블은 직선과 곡선의 중첩으로 이루어져 있다. 자연 재료인 목재가 가지고 있는 본연의 선을 전통 공예 기법인 낙송법을 이용하여 생명감을 불어넣었고, 그 위에 인간이 자연으로부터 추출해 만들어낸 인공물인 철을 균형 있게 겹쳐 쌓아올렸다. 자연의 불규칙하고 다양한 흐름의 곡선들과, 인공이 가지고 있는 특유의 곧게 뻗은 직선의 조합이 린 테이블의 미학적 특징이다.

Construct the furniture From cultural distinct characteristics of Ancient Greek architecture and Asian timber architecture, we abstract universality inside of it as the Beam-to-Column structure to build table from the very origin sense.

Build a Forest All human being has seen repeated lines of trees from forest. This forest itself is LIN. This table can be connected and ex-pand in both ways of vertical and horizontal just like forest.

Nature, Human, Balance Wood represents the nature while steel lines are layered on the wood representing artificiality. This is culture made by humanity. Lin table series pursue a transition space as a medium. It connects human and nature to balance.
