스튜디오 신유 : 디자인 번역가

스튜디오 신유는 “디자인은 번역이다” 라는 독자적인 디자인 철학을 바탕으로 활동을 전개한다.

사람과 사람, 사람과 공간 그리고 사람과 자연을 연결해 줄 수 있는 작업은 좋은 번역처럼 송신자와 수신자 사이에서 어떤 매개로서 문화적으로, 공간적으로 올바르게 번역하는 일과 같다.

소개

스튜디오 신유는 스웨덴의 로컬 목공방 겸 가구 디자인 스튜디오가 발전하며 만들어졌다. 2019년 서울 디자인 페스티벌 최초의 영 앰버서더로 선정되며 본격적으로 활동을 시작했다. 이후 가구, 설치물, 공간 등 다양한 필드에서 작업을 선보이며 국내/외 아트&디자인씬의 주목을 받고 있다.

2023년에는 인천국제공항 박물관에서 "한국의 가구"를 주제로 개인전을 진행했다. 2024년에는 박선기, 이갑철 작가와 함께 프랑스 메종오브제에 참여했으며 서울 공예박물관 기확전 <공예로 짓는 집> 기획전에 참여했다.

스튜디오 신유의 첫 번째 프로젝트 “LIN COLLECTION”은 월간 디자인, Dezeen 등 권위있는 국내/외 매거진을 통해 소개되며 한국의 전통적인 아름다움을 보편적이고 현대적으로 탁월하게 풀어냈다고 평가받았다. 현재는 SK에코플랜트, 설화수, 포르쉐, 젠틀몬스터 등 글로벌 브랜드들과 협업을 진행하며 폭넓게 활동하고 있다.

STUDIO SHINYOO operates on the foundation of its distinct design philosophy: “Design is Translation.”

Works that connect people to people, people to spaces, and people to nature function much like good translation—serving as a thoughtful mediator between sender and receiver, one that conveys meaning with cultural and spatial clarity.

ABOUT

STUDIO SHINYOO emerged from the evolution of a local woodworking and furniture design studio based in Sweden. The studio officially began its journey in 2019, when it was selected as the very first Young Ambassador of the Seoul Design Festival. Since then, it has continued to draw attention across the domestic and international art and design scenes through works spanning furniture, installations, and spatial design.

In 2023, STUDIO SHINYOO held a solo exhibition at the Incheon International Airport Museum under the theme “Furniture of Korea.” In 2024, the studio participated in Maison & Objet in France alongside artists Park Seon-ki and Lee Gap-chul, and was also featured in the special exhibition A House Built by Craft at the Seoul Museum of Craft Art.

The studio’s debut project, the LIN COLLECTION, was introduced through major publications such as Monthly Design and Dezeen, and was praised for its masterful reinterpretation of traditional Korean aesthetics through a contemporary and universal lens. Today, STUDIO SHINYOO continues to expand its presence through collaborations with global brands including SK ecoplant, Sulwhasoo, Porsche, and Gentle Monster.
