구성의 해체

갤러리 느와는 2024년 6월 13일부터 7월 21일까지 스튜디오 신유의 개인전 <구성의 해체>를 개최한다.

스튜디오 신유는 ‘디자인은 번역이다’ 라는 독자적인 디자인 철학을 바탕으로 활동하는 아트&디자인 스튜디오이다.

사람과 사람, 사람과 공간 그리고 사람과 자연을 연결해줄 수 있는 작업은 마치 좋은 번역처럼 송신자와 수신자 사이에서 어떤 매개로서 문화적으로, 또 공간적으로 올바르게 번역하는 일과 같다는 생각 아래 작품활동을 지속해오고 있다.

신유에게 이번 <구성의 해체> 전은 일종의 무대와 같다.

전형적인 화이트 큐브의 갤러리에서 이루어지는 평면적 전시의 관습을 따르는 대신 공간에 주어진 골격이나 기능적 특징들을 살펴보며 이들에게 유기적으로 대응하는 방식으로 작품을 만들고 공간 속 제2의 공간을 창조해내며 스스로 연출가의 역할을 자처한다. 갤러리를 넘어 플래그십 내부를 신유의 색으로 채우며 새로운 규율을 만들어 내는건 기존의 전시 맥락을 ‘해체’하고 충돌의 지점에서 다시 ‘재구성’하려는 그들의 예술적 실천이기도 하다.

신유는 이번 전시에서 가구적 오브제에서 확장된 공간의 재현으로 동양과 서양, 흑과 백, 패션과 예술, 상업공간과 갤러리, 안과 밖, 수직과 수평의 여러 대비되는 조건들을 그들만의 디자인 언어로 고찰하여 작품과 공간의 관계성을 화두로 끌어올린다.

우리는 체험과 기억을 토대로 경험적 이미지를 재구성함으로써 신유의 세계와 섞이고 파편화되며 작품의 일부가 되어 시간과 공간을 가로질러 사유를 시도해보게 된다.

스튜디오 신유의 무대적 연출은 공간에서 풀어낼 수 있는 미학적 가치들의 논의를 가능케 하는 흥미로운 장을 마련할 것이다.

DE-CONSTRUCTION OF THE CONSTRUCTION

From June 13 to July 21, 2024, GALERIE NOIR presents STUDIO SHINYOO’s solo exhibition The Construction of De-construction.

STUDIO SHINYOO is an art and design studio rooted in the belief that “Design is Translation.” Their practice is built on the idea that connecting people—to one another, to space, to nature—is an act of translation: a cultural and spatial mediation between sender and receiver, where meaning is shaped and reshaped through form.

For SHINYOO, The Construction of De-construction is not just an exhibition—it is a stage.

Rather than conforming to the conventions of a white cube gallery, they read the given structure, uncover its functional traces, and respond with works that organically inhabit the space. They stage a second space within the space, positioning themselves as both maker and scenographer. By infusing the gallery—and even its adjoining flagship interior—with their sensibility, they create a new order. This gesture of deconstructing the existing exhibition framework, and reconstructing it through moments of collision, reflects their ongoing artistic inquiry.

In this exhibition, SHINYOO explores the relationship between object and space by expanding furniture into architectural expression. Using their distinct visual language, they reflect on opposing elements: East and West, black and white, fashion and art, commercial interior and gallery, inside and outside, vertical and horizontal. These dualities are not resolved but held in tension, forming a layered dialogue between form and context.

As viewers, we navigate this space through experience and memory—our perception merging with SHINYOO’s fragmented world. We become part of the work, crossing boundaries of time and space in a quiet act of reflection.

STUDIO SHINYOO’s scenographic intervention offers a compelling platform to rethink the aesthetic potential embedded in space itself—where architecture, object, and narrative meet.
